As part of our Integrated Care System’s New Staff Offer, a development programme to improve the identification, engagement, and retention of colleagues from diverse backgrounds has launched for staff across Birmingham and Solihull.

Possibilities Beyond Limits (PBL) is open to all at middle management level aiming for senior roles and particularly for BME and disabled/neurodiverse colleagues who continue to be underrepresented at senior levels. During the pilot of at Birmingham Community Healthcare, over half of the participating staff have already progressed to a higher band.

This is one of a number of new development programmes that will be open to staff across our health and care system that will feature in our New Staff Offer, developed through the Our Open Conversations, due to be published in full in less than a month’s time.

PBL is a transformational programme launched by Birmingham Community Healthcare. It aims to increase representation of Black, Asian, Ethnically Diverse, Disabled, and Neurodiverse individuals in senior leadership roles (bands 8a and above). This CPD-certified programme provides participants with the skills, confidence, and networks needed to advance their careers. This cohort is specifically open to all professionals middle levels (NHS agenda for change would be bands 6 and 7) who are eager to progress to senior roles. If you aspire to lead and are part of an underrepresented group, this programme is for you.

Places in the PBL programme are limited and will be allocated based on the following criteria:

  • Commitment to personal and professional growth.
  • A demonstrated interest in leadership and advancing within your field.
  • Alignment with the programme’s goal to enhance diversity in leadership.

To Apply:

To be considered for the PBL programme, you must:

  • Complete an Initial Conversation (Part 1A-1D: Scope for Growth form).
  • Submit a Stretch Assignment Proposal upon successful completion of Part 1 and sign programme agreement etc.
  • Be available to commit 85 to 105 hours over 12 months for programme activities, including workshops, mentoring sessions, and a group stretch assignment.

Please note PBL cannot be undertaken in conjunction with other programmes, course and/or apprenticeships.
